Lost "Guy", the Sacaen Myrmidon, in this way. Found out he was a child as the boss was killing him, made the whole moment feel even better!

Any character can be really good in fe7 but Harken comes pre promoted and is comparable which then frees you to spend the exp/hero's crest. He is a good character, especially early on cause he has really good base stats, he would for sure be best off promoted early cause of that and his kinda bad growth rates. He also had really low con which means he won't be doubling with heavier weapons and axes are basically not an option after promoting.

in my runs, rebecca's role is to grab the secret book, sell it, then parry an axe with her pre-frontal cortex trans-sad so many runs have steeled me against losing my little war criminals

I will not stand for this Rath slander, I'm hoping you don't mean Nomads/Bow Knights too.

I should clarify, they're worde post promotion IF you try to also use a sword cause it essentially ends out giving you a unit that the ai will specifically target at range when a sword is equipped and up close if a bow is equipped, so they end up becoming a weak tank that can't counter. Hand axes and javelins can attack at both ranges and both can be equipped by paladins. They're broke af

Seems we're talking fe7 here and I know that game inside and out. I'm guessing it's your first play so I'll give some tips, milk all the exp you can, if there's infinite spawning goons until you kill a boss, take advantage, there's no grinding outside of chapters. Promote characters around level 15 or so for combat and asap for healers or bard/dancers. You can max your gains by having a character be 20/20 but realistically a lot of characters promoted at 20 will get to around 15 or so after promotion before the game ends, so splitting the difference is your best bet. You don't need a balanced team at all. When I play Hector hard mode I literally just go all paladin, peg knight and wyvern rider with eliwood getting carried by Marcus, ill use Hector and Canas for cleanup and maybe level a couple healers in case i gotta split the party and bring a thief when i gotta open locks, but archers just suck and paladins are broken. Movement is the most powerful star in the game by far, paladins have access to the full weapon triangle and can move again after doing anything but attacking. My go to team for the last while has been Kent, Sain, Owen, Marcus, Isadora, Heath, Canas, Hector, Priscilla and Sera with either nils or ninian replacing one healer if need be, I'll drop Hector and a isadora if i gotta drop 2 for a level to keep a dancer and a healer both around.

Good tip on promoting, I have Spain at 18 and Canas at 16. Might be time to promote them. I think Lucius is getting up there too. Also, that farming trick is clever, I know many people have probably thought of that but I didn't 😁. I'm very bad at FE but it's still one of mh favorite game series for some reason.

No FE game is genuinely difficult, they're just good at feeling difficult (or were). FE7 can be beaten with pretty much any group of characters levelled however. So you can just use people you like, and you can do really weird experimental parties. What I've recommended is a floor wiping min max style. Paladin-maxxing works pretty well in any of the games. Promoting Canas earlier is good too cause he gets staves and also totally forgot that canas should for sure be promoted at level 10 cause Luna is a fantastic black magic tome that's about steel weapon common that has SET DAMAGE THAT IGNORES RESISTANCE, it's insanely op and doesn't depend on level. Also DO play thr older games, Fe3 is both a remake of the first and a sequel in the same game and is the first modern enough one and works pretty much thr same as fe7 minus a few things, genealogy has its differences but at the end of the day, it's a cake walk, I would look up story and map item stuff in a walk through tho, otherwise you've got arenas that you don't die from in your prep screen to abuse and the main lord can solo the game, thracia 776 is really the only one that you may have to restart but it's still not nearly as hard as people say and the difficulty is also temporary and thematic.
