This could also be a Vagus nerve thing. Lots of people have a cough reflex triggered by stimulation of the Vagus nerve, including the part in the digestive tract. It's called the Arnold's nerve cough reflex.
So I'm not the only one noticing this? Everyone around seems to need to cough every minute.
