What’s the leftist position on fighting against pirates? Like obviously merchant vessels are capitalist and bad, but kidnapping sailors just trying to make a living is bad too (old timey sailors were proletariat as fuck). Would a war to stop another nation enslaving/killing dudes just trying to be their version of truckers be justified? If so the Barbary wars might be on the list of “good American military actions”.

I'd say it depends on the pirates. Some of them were slavers but some of them were liberators. Truly a land of contrasts
