I guess, what are the good policies we support him for? I'm really not familiar with worker conditions in Syria before and after his coming to power.

And again if there are good articles or whatever I'm happy to read, just not finding much from Wikipedia / other quickly accessible sources

In all honesty this is why the term "critical support" is used, i.e. the individual is not an angel but is opposed to western advances that would have left Syria desolate/destroyed and in the hands of regressive terrorist groups that are even more reactionary towards various groups. i.e. Gadaffi was taken out in Libya and the Arab Spring happened and then suddenly there were open air human slave markets selling women and children in areas of Egypt and Libya is a good example of what happens when "western liberation" occurs in the Middle East and is why "critical support" is oriented towards understanding that things could be EVEN WORSE.

I don’t know if there are many “good policies” outside of fighting against an invasion by the US, Israel, and western backed militias and ISIS terrorists. That is basically Syria’s modern existence. If he’s replaced by a pro-US puppet then Syria will likely face the same fate as Libya.

Insofar as my "support" means anything at all, it's on the basis of him being an enemy of Israel whose country has been fighting for its life for a long time against terrorists and imperialists. I don't especially like the Ayatollah (though I think he's a smart guy), but I'd say I'm supportive of Iran for largely similar reasons, though it is a much more secure country than Syria.
