Just wanted to share a thread for those who don't regularly venture out of the bear site. Can't cross-post since it's defederated. It's small but has some numbers about community counts, active users, etc and links to more info from https://lemmyverse.net/. Thought it was notable that Hexbear shows up no matter how you sort it.

OP image is community count sorted by active users in the last month.

one of their tankie leaders just got caught calling trans issues "western pink washing."

I'm comfortable assuming this is bullshit, but is it a malformed reference to an actual event that happened?

If I may use my decoding ability that I gained from years of listening to people tell their wildly distorted sides of a story for sympathy, here's what I think happened:

Hexbear points out rainbow imperialism, critiques how western empire uses queer people and their rights as a rhetorical battering ram to justify invasions and coups (and now a full-on extermination of Palestinians)

Dipshit sees this and either genuinely or deliberately misintereprets it as "LGBT people are a sinister capitalist plot" or something, heroically and liberally laying claim to "all LGBT issues" and deciding that we all must be secretly bigoted and view queerness as bourgeois decadence, just like how our rejection of cynical liberal identity politics (why won't spoiled children listen to genocidal coconut mommy?) means we're racist.

It's one of the Lemmy core developers, and therefore a ml mod. But all Lemmy instances are using their code and hexbear the only place I know of (outside ml) that has been pretty actively asked for them to be removed.
