Just wanted to share a thread for those who don't regularly venture out of the bear site. Can't cross-post since it's defederated. It's small but has some numbers about community counts, active users, etc and links to more info from https://lemmyverse.net/. Thought it was notable that Hexbear shows up no matter how you sort it.

OP image is community count sorted by active users in the last month.

Also they hate reddit because of capitalism but don't realize that and consider themselves capitalists.

"I hate how this website has gone to shit, injected adds into everything, and censored everything that isn't squarely within the Overton window.

Time to pack up and go to a website coded and maintened by literal communists and call everybody who thinks the democrats suck tankies."

By embracing BBS Forum Web 1.0 thought we continue to frustrate The Reddit Reconstructionists. I've lived in the late 90s through mid 2000s online and can say, it took the concerted effort of MySpace Brian, the Facebook Android, whoever sold Twitter to Elon Musk and a whole hell of a lot of money being intentionally poured in to defeat the force that was enteenched in the internet, it can be rebuilt and they don't have the sauce to do it again, let alone reddit wannabes. Like a tree planted on water.

It isn’t big though. They just get kicked out of everywhere else they go for being disruptive assholes, so for every community there’s a hexbear duplicate

Duplicate with half the posts and a third of comments.

All of which are super politically charged

I like their indignity about politics being brought up ever, using that as an insult and mic drop like it wins the argument instantly. Such lib coworker ass energy.

      They are bots and cheaters

I didn't post on r/CTH but my political journey / "radicalisation" was based on joining the workforce in the aftermath of the 2008 crash and then losing my safety net just before covid and the employment hellscape that came after.

I've been through enough to know a decent amount of luck and privilege was the only thing keeping me off the streets, and I get a similar vibe from a LOT of the posters here. The idea this place is full of teenagers is absurd.

I think most r/CTH users originally came from Twitter and they made a reddit account specifically for that subreddit. The culture of the subreddit was so different than the rest of reddit and it was evident this was older Something Awful types or enlightened 4chaners who had seen the error of their ways. There was blatant contempt for the "Reddiquette" and frequent brigades, and in general just contempt for all of the rest of Reddit.

That's why they quickly became the new SJW, the new SRS of the site. The gamers and gooners and nu atheists and software engineers and funkopop collectors and the_donald users and the r/politics users all were able to unite against a common scapegoat, and the feeling was mutual. There was always the feeling a ban was inevitable, and the mods of the subreddit had to keep being recycled being they were being pressured hard by the admins to delete tons of stuff, and they didn't want to and kept getting ousted. Then the next group would come in and pretend to for a bit then stop lmao.

That's fair! I do consider the benefits of not having constant struggle sessions like on .ml to outweigh a decrease in content. If the best content and comrades are federated with Hexbear, and the worst aren't, the good posts we lose are worth the tradeoff for me.

Met a peckerwood from lemmy.ml the other day who had the nerve to ask "how many [of Hexbear's posters in a subject about not supporting Kamala because we don't do genociders] are actually POC", didn't correct me any time I implied their crackery, pulled that same "lmao ur crazy" schtick, and then had the nerve to that very same day "as a POC" another thread like... These liberals have no fucking scruples, whatsoever

If you think you could game any system thrown at you, why be anti communist in the first place? If you're gonna be fine anyway and it's pretty clear she doesn't give a shit about anyone else, then why have an opinion on any political system? No matter the rule of Man or God this great Ozymandias who walks among us has the acuity to transcend and thrive in any political system and they're posting on a star trek forum about how communism bad?

Julian Assange is a bootlicker and Kremlin stooge who sold us out to the American and Russian billionaires. The Mueller Report proved he was explicitly trying to get Treason Trump elected and working with Putin to push disinformation to that end.

Now who’s bringing up politics everywhere? Guess it’s ok when it’s MSNBC slop

The world literaly just watched the American billionaire class coup the incumbent president through sheer media and money pressure.

But it was Assange that "sold us out". Biden's incompetence and evilness notwithstanding that is hilarious, like living in a cave.

Can you truly say you’ve had the HB experience if you haven’t recieved emoji/sticker/gif spam from people who weren’t alive for 9/11,

That I was, and I distinctly remember cracking a joke about it shortly after to only get around 50 absolutely horrified faces after saying "i guess the talibans favorite football team was also the New York Jets"

have never been outside their country,

I've been to ten foreign countries so far enjoyed them more than seventeen out of the eighteen states I've been to in the U.S.

I think that could count as being modestly traveled as an individual.

and refuse to listen to opposing views

I do listen to opposing views, I just do what every normal person does afterwards and tell you your views are wrong when they're wrong.

Part of why lemmit sucks ass is because of an underlying belief that every person should be allowed to speak on a topic and that every person is worth listening to. It’s why it’s bursting at the seams with incoherent lib screeds such as this. The culture enables the extreme entitlement they feel to speak authoritatively on subjects they know jack shit about.

Mao had the correct stance: people with the political literacy lower than that of an infant should be barred from speaking. No investigation, no right to speak. They are not qualified to speak on anything of importance, they should be stopped from doing so, and anything they do say is entirely unworthy of any thought or consideration or debate - it is the fruit of the poisonous tree of ignorance and malice. You don’t try to make rotten fruit taste good, you only eat fruit that isn’t rotten. Yes we have a duty to educate but that is initiated by getting them to form a basic understanding of the topic, not entertaining their incoherent word salads or laboring over its particulars. When they produce something that is the product of actual knowledge and understanding, that is the time for correcting errors. Until then, shut the fuck up, lemmitor. Read a fucking book for once in your life.

Making up shit out of whole cloth lol

To remember 9/11 you have to be at least in your late 20s or early 30s. Tells you something about these nerds that they think so badly of literally all young people.

I remember 9/11 very well, and anyone who lived in the last 25 years knows what it is like to live in the post-9/11 hysteria.

Moving to a different country actually reaffirmed my leftist positions. Turns out the more of society you see, the more left you are on average. It decimates all illusions. This is commonly known anyway, and represented in every electoral map for fucking ever

It’s ironic to accuse leftists of being unaware of other countries. When I was (more of) a lib I never learned that much about other countries. Now I’m reading a lot more books and watching a lot more non-English content from other points of view.

Going to London is about as far as many Americans get

And of course, the stereotypical European arrogance about being “well traveled” because they passed through a few countries on a day trip

I have some thoughts about travel as a way to acquire culture, perspective, and wisdom — or rather, the illusion of such. I might post about it sometime soon once I get my thoughts together, but basically at this point I’ve dialectically negated my old views of travel and decided that using travel as a means for enlightenment is a relic of colonial ideology. I don’t think one can learn much about other cultures without living among them for extended periods, years.

Ah yes, the European cosmopolitan, having vacationed everywhere and worked at one place, which obviously makes them worldly. Imo you don't really get to know a place until you have worked there, and even then it is just a small sliver of experience and you have to be intentional about going around and talking to people to really get a big picture look, a process that can take even concerted academics 3-5 years, which means the place will have changed moderately even by the time you have published the book.

It's always funny how everyone just throws out nonsense about hexbear because they don't know what to do with us.

There isn't a spot for "Anti-Capitalist leftist" in their shape sorting game, so they try to shove us in the "teenage trolls" hole, but we probably average closer to 27-30.

Then they try to fit us in the q-anon maga hole, but that clearly doesn't fit because we'll bite your head off if you come at our trans homies and all our conspiracies are admitted to by the FBI/CIA.

So they post things like "they love the N word that's why they got defederated" and people just believe it.
