It has cute wittle heart buttons. And it's stripey and I love historical reproduction. BUT It will cost about half my disposable income for the rest of the year. I've been saving for a while, and part of the reason I save is so I can get special things like this, but buying special things like this is why I always end up close to paycheck-to-paycheck.

For half your disposable income for the rest of the year, you really need to love it. That's all there is to weigh up. Personally I could never spend so much on an item, even though I like fashion. It does look like good quality though. Is there anywhere you could try it on? The thing is, it's such a unique piece that you'd need the correct outfit for it to do it the justice it deserves.
Maybe shop around for alternatives or secondhand versions if it's going to financially hamper you too much. It's not the most common item I guess. It's kind of up the alley of like denim industrial wear reproductions like OLDERBEST and stuff.
What can I say really - if it's worth it to you then get it. It's nice.

idk, I'm leaning "wait a week to make sure it's true love THEN DO IT" but I'm also not in the most stable or reasonable place psychologically rn so maybe don't listen to me

I am worried about it selling out so time is a little of the essence, and I can only compare the measurements against clothes I already own. Overall it would fit well into my wardrobe very well, but it is a good chunk of change. Trying to figure out if that would scare me out of wearing it for a year or if it means I would wear it even more. The only other expensive piece of clothes I own, it took me about 2 months before I could even wear them out of the house haha.

I did decide to buy it. Thankfully there is a really good returns policy because it is covered by the Japanese consumer laws and not the USan so at the most I am out $40 on shipping if it doesn't work.
No yet! I'm still on the fence. And I'm going to the good thrift store to buy classroom furniture tomorrow so hopefully I'll find something to displace my fixation onto lol.
Do you miss anything in your wardrobe? Do you frequently wish you had a jacket like that? If yes, then buying it would add quality to your life. If no, then you probably won’t really miss it if you don’t buy it. Personally I get fixated on expensive things and if I don’t buy it and don’t find myself frequently in situations where I could use it then I forget about it after a few months making me just as happy but with more money to spend on other things that might make me happier. It’s a pretty jacked though!
There was a similar blue denim chore coat I sat on at a vintage shop and wound up missing it. I thought about it for a few months but you're right, the thought does fade.
That's a lot of money. I would just thrift. You can find some very fun stuff for very cheap
Make a budget you'll be happy to stick with, and factor in expenses like this. If it's in your budget, it's a beautiful jacket and you should feel no regret for purchasing it. If it's out of budget, save up some more until it is.
Is this the TCB Carhartt repro chore coat? I can't tell you if it's in your budget or not, but this is probably a pretty nice light coat.
Since you're buying something from Japan and it's a pain in the ass to return, be sure to compare their measurements to jackets you own. I bought an Oni Type 2 jacket recently and I spent months making sure it was the jacket I wanted and that I'd be ordering the right size lol
That's great advice! I was trying to measure myself and getting various results, but I went and measured my two most similar coats and the listed measurements for one of the sizes are right in the middle! Which is perfect because one of them is a little snug and the other is a little roomy.

The shoulder and sleeve measurements are the most important thing on a jacket. I think most of TCB's stuff is unsanforized, but washed so you shouldn't expect much shrinking (ie, the measurements provided should be true to size)
I personally like to sit on big purchases - if the one I want sells out, there'll always be something else in the future. That being said, this is a pretty reasonable price (assuming you're buying direct from them) for this kind of heritage work wear. Jackets/coats tend to be more expensive in this space for one reason or another - it's hard to find this kind of stuff under $200 unless you luck out on a sale somewhere.
You mentioned being afraid of messing up a jacket like this in another comment - that should be relatively hard unless you're wearing it for a labor intensive job. This is a reproduction of old worker clothing, so it'll take wear and tear (and most people like the look when it starts to show its age).
Just make sure you wash it when it's dirty, as this can degrade the fibers in the long run (the common cause of crotch "blow out" in jeans). It's indigo dyed, so I'd run it by itself, inside out, in the washing machine on cold with no spin cycle - shake off the excess water and hang dry it.
