Doing a progressive overload routine and finally failed a deadlift set at 117.5 kg - even the deload is around the max I was at before (over a year ago or so) so I'm actually pretty psyched, even though I failed the set.

I think I was a little too scared of the weight the last time I was working out, but my form seems good now. Only issue I'm going through is the bar scraping my shins and knees, especially while lowering the weight.

    Use a Hexbear

They're less scary and more conducive to good form, while also giving all the benefits that people are deadlifting for.

We think straight-bar lifts are the 'proper' one because they're in the sport of powerlifting, but if you're lifting for strength and not to compete, then why be constrained by the rules of that sport?

I think I remember Rob Kearney saying somewhere that people shouldn't deadlift because it's too dangerous – not unless they specifically need to deadlift for their sport.

Yeah maxxing is bad for you. Don't do it. Its for dick measuring. Try to be incremental. Do a full body workout by doing back squats, and do them in sets. That's how you get massive and have amazing abs. Don't even need to do much else either.

Trap bars are the GOAT, they're just so much more comfy than regular bars for deadlifts, also your grip strength is so much greater due to the more natural position of your wrists when gripping it.

They have bars that bend a little to avoid the shin thing

This is great! I don't know if you record your sets to watch your technique, but it helps immensely.

I have some thoughts about why you may be hitting your knees/shins on the way down. If you want to send a couple videos I can help you out. Or I can just give you my 2 cents without them.
