I know the 'this is what they took from you' is a meme, but it's literally true. I have heard about and seen pictures of all the street cars that use to go everywhere in my city. They were awesome. And they literally destroyed them and pulled up the tracks because cars. We literally already had an amazing public transportation system. Automotive capitalist and racist suburbanites stole it from us.
It's actually heartbreaking to read about the way robust mass transit has been ripped out of our cities. One of the most depressing subjects is the destruction of properties to build urban highways, usually resulting in the destruction of lower income neighborhoods. And these fucking comapanies are still pouring money into fighting public transit from getting a foothold in our public spaces.
