Comparing houseki no kuni to to the beastars adaption wtf happened
They actually answered this before Beastars aired. The intention with Beastars was to demonstrate a faster turnaround time on the quality of their animation and product while still being something that would retain top-tier viewing figures. The quality difference between the two shows is obvious but they definitely delivered a demonstration that audiences would watch their 3d content even when made on a nearly typical anime production schedule.
In essence, Houseki was "look what we can do when we're showing off" and Beastars was "look what we can still do in a normal schedule". The studio seems to want to really make a go of 3d on normal production timelines within the industry.
The only thing that bothers me about this is that they're probably sacrificing the first borns of their employees to achieve it.
