Garth Ennis is the most "XXXTREME" comics writer. Just constantly writing fucked up shit and looking at you asking if you're shocked yet.

Ah, yes. The guy who brought us Preacher, a comic so edgy that it wrapped around on itself and ended up banal.

I've heard theyre just insane over the top gore & violence without anything else going on, but I haven't read them so who can say

this is why I haven't touched teh series. It just looks terrifying and gorey and I don't need that right now.

It's not good or even Garth Ennis best work. I didn't watch the show for quite a while because I was like oh, great, they adapted that comic series that sucks.

I wouldn't say there isn't anything else going on, even as someone who didn't really like the shock jock bullshit, there's a pretty on point critique of capitalist democracy under all the filth

Edit: Had some thought about it, and yeah, like 'The Boys' are a CIA-adjacent clandestine group specifically targeting this corp and their superhero shtick, just in case one goes rogue and threatens the government right, but then

        old comics spoilers

turns out one of The Boys is the one to go rogue, having stood a bit too close to the fire too long and deciding he wants to put it out for good, genocide style. There's not nuthin to the narrative, it's just covered in this grotesque parody of a real life corporation and the violence they inflict on society
