Life Pro Tip: If you trace the arc the Sun and Moon make across the sky, you'll find all of the planets along that line (provided, you know, that they are up at night time instead of during the day. I.e. not on the other side of the Sun).
Mars and Jupiter are pretty easy to pick out at night. Saturn is a little dimmer but still brighter than most stars. Mercury and Venus can be caught either at sunrise or sunset when they're up (they're closer to the Sun than Earth, so they're always below the horizon by late night.).
I use an app called night sky that uses your compass and position sensor to tell you what your phone is pointed at. Neat way to identify stars and planets.
