As a footnote whenever this comes up, it always shocks me how deep my center-right family members are in that shit. A bunch of college graduates who use middle school vocabulary in casual conversation is truly a sight.
At one point like 10-15 years ago I think some school system banned talking about homosexuality whatsoever. So you couldn't even say you were gay. And he had a campaign saying you could say you were "Takei" instead of "gay" I guess? Kinda corny, but also as a young radlib and porto-leftist, I though it was kinda sweet? I just remember his little vid saying "It's okay to be Takei"
Now, in 2020, the power of calling someone "Takei" has come full circle. "Gay" first couldn't be spoken, then was a reactionary insult, now being gay actually cool and good. But since I have read theory and awakened the power of dialectics, I understand that calling someone "Takei" -- now that is the real insult. And better yet, there is no proscription against doing so. It's not even reactionary or bigoted. Thanks, Sulu!

No you don't get it! Takei told them to do it so it's good.
