Welcome to the Vegan Theory Club Weekly Megathread!
We’re kicking things off with a space just for vegans! Inspired by our friends over at Hexbear, this thread is the spot to chat about what’s on your mind, what’s happening, and what you’re planning for the week.
Feel free to talk about anything, whether it’s vegan-related or not. This is a chill space for connecting, sharing ideas, and supporting each other.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone’s up to!
Got any ideas?
We’re also taking suggestions for essay topics, recommended readings, or any resources that could help each other out. Feel free to drop in links, ask for advice, or contribute any other materials you think would be useful for the community and we can start adding to the megathread.
Looking forward to hearing what everyone’s up to and what we can explore together!
People are already complaining we didn't go with ISO 8601 for the date format
New students in the class means new kids asking me about veganism, which is neat.
That's actually really cool, none of my teachers had anything worth while to teach me outside the specific coursework and I wish someone would have clued me in a bit earlier.
As per another commenter's suggestion recently, I tried a lemony chickpea soup inspired by Budget Bytes' recipe. Tastes really great and cost next to nothing both in terms of money as well as time to cook. Added some zucchini and leftover noodles and went to town. 11/10 recommendation
It might be a full coincidence, but I've been doing a vitamin capsule, omega-3 capsule, and B12 drops daily, and my energy has been great. We'll see if this goes on forever.
I take B12 injections because of other "previously existing conditions" and it sucks at first doing it to yourself but its only once a week and they make a huge difference for me. It is an under skin injection so its really shallow and isn't like a vaccine needle or anything like that.
Two days of work meetings in a row, one more tomorrow (planning week). I'm in the office this time instead of chilling at home, as god intended
Make this stop
It is very important that you are uncomfortable all day to do the work that can be done anywhere for the culture
I was relocated to an expensive city last year for the in-office culture… have been in the office less than 5 times this year.
On a similar note the vegan scene in this expensive city is quite dismal compared to where I came from. I visited my old city this past weekend and was blessed at every meal
We got a weather station and I am fucking stoked about getting it set up.
Sick. I've been messing around with esp32s in some of my leisure time. Have been thinking of making my own to log rainfall and like radiant intensity data to better help me care for my garden. I admit to more strongly considering something off the shelf every time I work on it haha.
What did you end up getting/what are you most keen to use it for?
You are definitely smarter than I am lol.
We got the ambient weather WS-2000. I think we are most interested in tracking the weather in our local area over time and observing how it changes. We've lived here for 3 full years now and the first two had violent storms and tornados, but this year has been really calm. Maybe if we are tracking data objectively we will better understand our risks.
The rainfall gauge will be helpful in the garden for sure!
Nah there's heaps of shit I can't do and even the stuff I'm alright at I'm not very good at (after all, not like it's built yet haha).
Risks like long term staying and mitigation of natural disasters?
Along those lines, but more short term and less intense, lol.
I don't really see us moving - we have good groundwater supply and aren't on a flood plain. Our area has been mapped to a 1-in-350 year event and while I know climate change is unpredictable, I'm not super worried.
Because the first two years here were so bad we spend a considerable amount of money on things like putting a bit of flooring down in the basement so it would be nicer to hide out there in storms (versus the rough and cold concrete floor) as well as generators and battery backups. I'm sure we will be happy when we need them, but we went a little nuts.
Hopefully with the weather station we can be more objective about what we are seeing and as we gather data over time, begin to understand our climate and how it is changing.

I bought all the equipment to set up hydroponics and I'm too lazy to get it set up lol
Could yall create and link me a vegan infographics community? I have some ones I'd like to upload.
Good idea https://vegantheoryclub.org/c/infographics
I set that up. Thanks for contributing!
I appreciate all the work you do, making the internet a more transparent place! I hope you enjoy our community <3
No probs! Thx for making a vegan-friendly space too, lemmy really needed one.
I tried to set one up a while ago, but I'm terrible at community-building.
