The documentary takes a look at all the design decisions that Hideo Kojima and his team made and shows how an old Japanese short story inspired many of Death Stranding’s themes and gameplay mechanics. It also explores all the hurdles Kojima Productions had to go through. For example, Hideo Kojima’s colleagues initially were very negative about Death Stranding’s concept and gameplay and told Hideo Kojima to switch directions and make something more exciting. Additionally, Hideo Kojima had to travel the world to find the right engine for the game. Lastly, the documentary also takes a look at Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the Death Stranding feature film and every other project that’s in development at Kojima Productions.

My only problem with death stranding was that it had too much action and combat it should have been 100% hiking simulator

That and the Kojima having to tell his dumb "oh so important" story that just doesn't gel with the gameplay at all. I'd enjoy the game a hundred times more if it actually was just a game about you being a post-apocalyptic delivery man and the story actually cared about the people you deliver things to and from.

Edit: Also the game should be way less gamified. I'd like 99% less "number go up" please.

Pretty sure I stopped playing after an early boss fight.

          The good stuff:

          • struggling to carry too much stuff
          • dropping too much stuff
          • throwing containers at people
          • building stuff with players you don't have to interact with
          • peeing to grow mushrooms

          The bad stuff:

          • story was eh
          • npcs
          • sudden boss fight after 10+ hours of not using any combat related controls

Enjoyed my time with it overall though. Keep meaning to come back to it and never do for whatever reason.

I also never got around to MGS 5 even though I really liked all the other metal gear games I've played, something about a more open world is vaguely intimidating I guess.

I have seen so many reviews of this game and, regardless of the response, it just looks like absolute dog shit to me. I guess I'm gonna have to try playing it at some point.
