Yep. And of course, you have to buy the woods you are going to live in.

Yeah nobody who wasn't solidly middle class at least would say that. A lot of white people really take property ownership as a given. Like obviously you could just sell the house you own and by some woods, ez peezy

from the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters

This isn't quite it. Either they're being completely dishonest, or they truly believe this is possible. I've had conversations with these people before, and there must be some inside argument they make when they're sitting around drinking bud lite that "well if those fuckin commies dont like our system, why dont they just go live in the woods???? there aint nothin stopping em!" and then everyone makes affirmative monkey noises so it just becomes fact in these sorts of circles.

the argument is, "go live in the woods, no one will find you so even if you're technically breaking the law who's gonna enforce it?" to which the answer is ... cops. or random assholes with guns. you will be shot for attempting to just go live in the woods.

Yeah there isn't like just "woods" you can go live in they're either owned by the state or a private entity and you're not allowed to live on either. Unless you're like way into Alaska you're probably going to get discovered at some point.
