I hate the injection of personality into technological instances or common hiccups in modern Internet culture. My heart monitor watch shows me a smiley face while booting up, Github buttons spam "Buy me a coffee!", Reddit says shit like, "Don't panic" when a webpage doesn't load. Shut the fuck up and leave me alone. I am so tired of being surrounded by these pale imitations of reality, like I need to be pacified with pseudo-emotions or meme culture every step of my day.

Fences. I'm an old fucker so this might not track with some of the youngsters, but growing up I don't really remember so many fences. We used to play football and tapeball in multiple yards with no interference. I used to wake up on weekends and tear balls through our alleyway, pretending I was Jeff Ward or Guy Cooper. My track had a couple of sharp turns, a few jumps, a straightaway and even a chicane. A kid today couldn't experience that because every single little six space parking lot in the alley is fenced off. That was my excite bike before NES. The neighbors didn't give a fuck about us playing football in their yards because they were at least acquaintances. Today I know one person on my street. One.

on the citations needed episode about HGTV and gentrification one of the points brought up is how the new neighbors that move into these hundred thousand dollar homes don't even bother getting to know or interact with their neighbors and treat their property as if it's an island separate from the area.
