I used to watch a lot of shitty WW2 documentaries as a kid and I vividly remember at least one doing the full "fanatically suicidal Japanese bugmen were all ready to fight to the death and it would cost 500.000+ casualties to invade them and force them to surrender so the bombs were necessary to save lives" bit.

It's fun to mention that there were no kamikazes in Pearl Harbor, and kamikaze was only done as an act of desperation.
