It is implying that people don't actually become atheist, but rather that humans fundamentally need religion and that the need cannot be otherwise fulfilled.

It's a common argument from applied "scientists" in culturally religious nations.

In this perspective, "wokeness" is a pathology that arises from being lost and misdirected due to a lack of religiosity, as religiosity is considered by them as a primal human need.

Often, this is a self-directed criticism by the culturally religious: They see a gaping wound where religion in society and history has taken from them, but they see this wound as a void which must be filled with more of the same. And they are unhappy that they have been unable to fill it. They don't understand that it doesn't need filled, but healed. They assume that this void exists in all people and that atheists and agnostics are deficient human beings as a result.

      Beautifully put.

I think when reactionary freeze-gamergate style Reddit New Atheists wander back into religion, be it tradcath shit or the like, it's from an unhealed sort of "cultural Christianity" that they never fully examined and just assumed should be there with or without the deity.

      Fuck Dawkins btw.

I’m going to be honest, the existence of potterheads/disney adults and a not insignificant amount of leftists makes me think it’s true.
