Why do protestant unionists in northern ireland insist they are "anglo saxon lowland scots" and not celtic irishmen?

True. It's just weird how these ulster orangement insist they are anglo saxon when modern lowland scots consider themselves celts-

I guess they are just that afraid of being called irish-

    Really pathetic

Irish nationalists agree: them lot are Brits

It'd be weird and false for Anglo-Saxons to start claiming to be Native American.

you kind of are doing a sectarianism here... Protestants will have to be included in a future all-irish project one way or the other. I'm Irish but I know there's Protestants in my family line... plenty of us "Celtic" Irish are descended from colonisers too. refusing to admit that is pretty cringe, what are you the one true Irishman? it's more meaningless of a distinction than ever these days now that we're white too. I'm on board with telling anyone still identifying as a Brit to fuck off but painting all Protestants with the same brush the way you are doing is bare faced sectarianism.

cool move to spout off a bunch of sectarian race brained nonsense and then retreat as soon as you're criticized by another Irish person. real posterboy for republican socialism you are anyway

I wish I could come across as cool and aloof as you... you must be such a happy and fulfilled person to be acting like this

                  Do you have a point?

Yer man asked me to explain the Plantations. I did. Now your making empty noises. I don't have anything left to say and I don't think you do either.

you're a deeply unpleasant person lol. why don't you find a space more accepting of your backwards views and snide attitude instead of giving Irish folk a shit name on here?

all I want is for you to engage with one of my criticisms instead of disengaging like a coward when challenged on your objectionable views. if you're such an authority on Irish nationalism that should be no problem for you?

                      I didn't know I was being criticised.

I think I gave a fairly factual summary of "what were the plantations" which is what was asked.

well you obviously got your hackles raised at my comments so your reading comprehension must be woeful if you didn't realise I was criticising you:) hope you can grow and become a nicer person and less secterian in future, wish you all the best
