Killing probably a whole % of your population at this point and disabling a shitload more in myriad ways because you didn't want to wear a mask at applebee's probably had nothing to do with it.

Think this is more about the 1951-present trend rather than the 2021 value specifically.

Fr. I do not believe these malthusians for a second biting their nails over population decline when they were clucking about how all the deaths and mass disabling would be “worth it” to keep business as usual.

They refuse to protect existing people and would gleefully see 90% of the human race die just for a cheap laugh.

Could it be that literally nobody can afford to live and therefore are choosing to not start families? Or could it be the WOKES. Must be the wokes because THE ECONOMY is stronger than it has ever been! i-love-not-thinking

If we can economically ruin Europe over Ukraine, maybe we can get a bunch of European immigrants coming to the US for work?

MFW Malthusians literally think that their Malthusian ideas are the solution to the natural consequences of their Malthusian policies they successfully implemented before.

here comes the bipartisan solutions to create as many "accidents you can't take care of yourself"

oh what was that alienation and isolation, covid and microplastics are meaning even potential "accidents" aren't happening anymore?

capitalist-laugh: “Sorry kiddo, cities are for rich people now! And no, we’re not hiring! Stay in your hometown forever, Mr fancy pants. I’m sure you don’t mind spending the rest of your life living with mummy and daddy.”

porky-scared-flipped: “wait, why is no one having KIDS!1! Yeah, I sabotaged millennials and Gen z’s chance to connect with the world, what does that have to do with people not having kids?”

I've actually seen immigration framed as superexploitation - labor is the superior of capital, so countries can suck up labor from underdeveloped countries and use them to advance their own economies even further. Even if they send back remittances it never makes up for the loss of labor power.

But America and Europe are too racist to actually take advantage of this dynamic.

At this point reactionaryism is the lysenkoism of social sciences.

Too stubborn to even do anything other than the most far-right thing possible, even if it saves your right-wing ass.

The United States lost 675,000 people to the Spanish flu in 1918-more casualties than World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War combined. Pharmaceutical companies worked around the clock to come up with a vaccine to fight the Spanish flu, but they were too late.

My guess would be the flu pandemic since "only" a little over 100k Americans died in WW1

It's such a short term goal.

You get a few more births, but then a load of dead mothers, abandoned kids less likely to become skilled workers, and more women refusing to have sex in case they're burdened with a kid they didn't want.

I mean we all know it's a dumb policy but sometimes I'm reminded that US fascists seem to want the mythical economy driven by (wage) slavery AND highly skilled technocrats
