Even if it was some like…utopian government sponsored thing and not the weird cult of personality corporate dictatorship it would surely turn into, the idea of living on Mars is not appealing to me.

Probably not. Designing a rocket that can carry humans to Mars is one thing, but a round trip rocket? That's probably centuries away. If you went to Mars, you'd be stuck there for life (which would probably be quite short).
Hold up. One way trip? Because maybe we can work something out.
