Showing my age here a bit but back in the day a lot of the throwaway merch you'd get at birthday parties there was distinctly royalty-themed. Looking back it made zero sense without the context but as a kid I didn't even question why we got given cardboard crowns. I guess a lot of the marketing was just imported from the states without thought to the name change.
