That could go either way. I spent a shitload of time giving drunks IVs but I also had the combat medic NEC and worked as a fire medic. My patients were all those severe enough to warrant an ambulance or emergency room visit. If he worked infantry or in the acute side of a hospital then there is a lot of putting things in arms and asses.

That was probably IV city for heat casualties but I don't know how prevalent drinking was given the official ban on it.
