I don’t have any sources to hand rn, I’m at work. But I know that in the USSR, if you were unemployed the government would literally find you a job. They had basically zero unemployment. Capitalism requires a permanent army of surplus workers (unemployed people) to keep wages low with the threat of “hey, it could be worse, you could be one of THOSE PEOPLE if you don’t take $5 an hour!”. Socialism not so much.
you graduate from an assigned major at an assigned school and are put to work in an assigned office/department. the workplace had lotteries to determine if you got a house or not, you were exempt from the lottery if you had family that already owned property. typical condos in the cities were much less than 100 sqm so it would be a bit of a squeeze if you and your spouse would move in with your parents if they already owned property. this was urban china post GPCR but before dengism.
