On the 24th of october in 1975, approximately 90% of Icelandic women struck for equality, not attending jobs or doing any domestic work. Iceland passed an equal pay law the following year, but the strike has been repeated on its anniversary several times since, such as in the years 2005, 2010, and 2016.

The strike was planned by "The Women's Congress", which had met on June 20th and 21st earlier that year. Among the reasons given for going on strike were pay inequality, lack of women in union leadership, and a general lack of recognition for the value and skill of domestic labor.

During the work stoppage, also known as "Women's Day Off", 25,000 people gathered in Reykjavik, Iceland's capital city, for a rally. There, women listened to speakers, sang, and talked to each other about what could be done to achieve gender equality in Iceland.

Women from many different backgrounds spoke, including a housewife, two members of parliament, and a worker. The last speech of the day was by Aðalheiður Bjarnfreðsdóttir, who "represented Sókn, the trade union for the lowest paid women in Iceland", according to The Guardian.

In 1976, the Icelandic government passed an equal pay law, and the country elected its first female President, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, five years later in 1980.

The 1975 Women's Strike also helped inspire the 2016 "Black Monday" anti-abortion ban protests in Poland, as well as the "International Women's Strike", single day work stoppages on March 8th, 2017 and 2018.

    cw: anxiety, ADHD meds

    Power of anxiety is wild

Went from feeling like I was about to have a stroke or something to feeling okay. Some physical symptoms still there like tingling but its much better than earlier (at least I think it's the anxiety causing it, have been through this before)

New ADHD meds maybe aren't working out idk :(

Most days seem to be okay but if I didn't sleep well or something side effects are so much worse, also worrying a lot about what this stuff doing to my heart rate and blood pressure :( . Have been too afraid to check the last one but I probably should so I can stop worrying or see if I should get off of this stuff (it's Vyvance btw, lisdexamphetamine)

This really sucks, for first time in a long time I'm not zoning out all the time and I can get daily tasks done easier yet still idk if this gonna work out :(

Doctor didn't respond to my last call but maybe I try again tomorrow :/

Idk why I'm posting this even, maybe reassurance ugh

The heart rate/blood pressure thing sucks but also goes away after a few weeks in my experience, happened to me with both vyvanse and concerta. I've got no experience with any anxiety related stuff though.

Also I didn't realize you were starting vyvanse when I found your first comment a while back, that shit lasts so fucking long which, yeah sure that's the whole point, but hopefully you're managing your sleep better than I could. I eventually had to drop it because I would just hyperfocus on random shit for 20 hours straight and then crash.

If you've been on adderall without these effects before i would say that maybe you're psyching yourself into some side effects? because my understanding is that vyvanse is just regular ol amphetamine, but with a bit attached that needs to be cleaved off by an enzyme for it to actually do anything, so it's rate-limited by the availability of that enzyme and the speed it works

Also if you just started it, tolerance does still build up, so maybe you got a little too much gas in your tank today, but in a few days it'll be a smoother ride
