Sorry but this is just delusional. This so called “socialist” (read as radlib) online pipeline has been running for a decade and has achieved exactly nothing. A few fundraisers I guess. The American “left” is as cucked as it’s ever been.

It’s fine to consume an entertainment product, but people need to stop thinking they’re engaging in some kind of political action by doing so, and stop thinking the streamers are enacting some kind of political program beyond enriching themselves. It has about as tangible an impact as posting on hexbear.net. Even if these streamers had correct analysis, which they very rarely do, theory is nothing without practical activity, and all these streamers encourage is a passive “politics via voyeurism”, passive consumption of an endless stream of dopaminergic borderline political content. Which, again, is fine as an entertainment product but it isn’t advancing any real socialist movement.

The biggest pro-Palestine voice? There are countless actual Palestinians out there sharing their stories, why should I care what some millionaire petit-brogeois living in the heart of the empire (and much closer to the top of the tree than you or I will ever be) has to say?

(I edited this like a billion times because I kept having other random thoughts and also changed it to be less rude)

A pipeline radicalizing scores of people doesn't fit the definition of "achieved exactly nothing" and it certainly isn't deluded to point that out, nobody claimed Hasan is the harbinger of the revolution, but he is useful insofar as his reach normalizes our politics, Hasan cussing out zionists on Piers Morgan has objectively been more useful than the entirety of the output of most american leftist parties

It’s fine to consume an entertainment product

I mean you don't seem to think it's fine

No bro, don’t you get it?

It’s better if a person who for the past year has been covering Palestine for 8 hours every day to his majority western audience, with 30k listening in all the time, has raised millions for charities in Palestine like Red Crescent and UNRWA, has Palestinian journalists on his show and gives space and voice and humanizes victims of genocide is kicked off the platform and silenced so that there is no space for a similar voice at a similar scale left for those people to express those views. It’s just entertainment bro. If you disagree you’re a lib.

        I can’t with these people.

@glimmer_twin@hexbear.net Media has a material impact on the world.. There is a reason Zionists want him off. Even if you disagree with him, having even one platform of anywhere near his size for Palestinian voices among a sea of zionist ones should be enough for you to realize that this is bigger than your personal feelings about him.

this Leftists have historically underestimated the importance of propaganda and it's centrality to culture, we cannot afford to leave any avenue, any platform to the fascists, we need all the help we can get no matter how irrelevant, nerdy, or pedestrian we personally find it

I never watch Hasan except clips shown to me and he is without a doubt a positive impact in terms of radicalizing people on the left. Yes he's an influencer, yes he's rich, yes some of his fans can be cringe, but at the end of the day he is doing more than any of us in terms of agit prop and messaging.

Like what is the point of hating on the the most popular leftist streamer? There's so many other fake leftists and reactionaries out there.

It's not ideal but this is what mass messaging looks like in the 21st century. Should he be handing out newspapers instead?

            Ok.

You’ve been on here for too long for this to be a troll. You should know better by now. What don’t you get? You should have a solid grasp of theory by now, but also understand the points that @CyborgMarx@hexbear.net and I am making.

Your reply is just…distasteful. It’s disrespectful to the people who are trying to engage with you. It’s distasteful given the gravity of what we’re talking about. This isn’t a fucking joke.

"Parasocial" is one of those words people like to use alot, rarely in a correct way

I'm talking about the affect Hasan has on his audience and the larger political landscape and you make it sound like I'm talking about his biceps or some shit

but he is useful insofar as his reach normalizes our politics

Seems like his normalisation of “genocide is bad” is going great. I just don’t buy this pipeline theory at all. It’s something I’ve heard for years. Where are all these countless socialists being pushed out of this pipeline? What are they doing? All the streamers seem to create is more people viewing streams. The pipeline stops at the point of subscription.

A pipeline isn't about creating Lenins or the next Huey Newton, it's about creating politically aware demographics responsive to those people if and when they emerge

It's about creating a fundraising base, an audience that spreads socialist agitprop far and wide, you can look down at that all you want, but that kind of brass tax soil tilling is what is required to generate the lubricant for a socialist movement

Obviously we don't have the hardware, the software, the leadership or the fuel, but goddammit we have the lubricant in abundance and I'd rather have 1/5 ingredients than 0/5

            spreads socialist agitprop

Let me know when they start doing that. These people are radlibs at best.

I guess we’ll just agree to disagree on the efficacy of this pipeline. As an aside, the fact that apparently Americans need ideas that were settled in theory written over a century ago filtered through the prism of slop twitch streamers before they’ll pay attention is an issue in of itself.
