    Rare Goku L

Though tbf, he did that to get the next generation ready to take over... until Super threw that away.

Ya, I kept watching after Cell, but stopped after Buu, so I haven't started Super. It just never got to the same high. There was a clear arc/theme of "passing the care of the world onto the next generation", something they were clearly aiming for since the beginning of Z when Gohan was a baby being trained by Piccolo, and then they threw it away to make him a nerd and Goku the savior again. Cell Saga will always be the proper end of the series for me, I think, unless someone I really trust tells me Super is that good.

Super undid so much of Goku's character progression and regressed him so bad (Six made a great video on it); made him like an actual child. I think Toriyama genuinely just forgot about alot of Z's events — he did tend to do that like with Goten and Trunks' tails. This is a 40 y/o series after all.

Disagree on the Gohan part though; he wouldn't be an interesting main character since he's usually the one being moved by the plot instead of moving the plot himself. And it makes sense for him to hate fighting with him repeatedly being bullied and beaten as a child in Z — I like that not wanting to be a fighter makes him unique.

I think Pan or Bra could've been good mcs for a possible sequel (not how GT did it though; Pan just ended up serving as a damsel in distress for Goku to save there) since they're empty slates, with Gohan acting as a mentor instead.

The way I saw it, it was Gohan gaining the confidence to go off and live his life on his terms. He finally escaped his father's shadow and did something actively, finally harnessing the power we were told he had but only ever saw him unleash accidentally it when forced by being pushed over the edge. After that, I figure he could start moving the plot instead of being moved. Make him a changed man.

Or, you could just make it a happier ever after. You can't really make a plot after "happily ever after", of course, but then that's kind of why I'm okay with the series ending after that arc. I'm okay with just imagining the characters just living their life after that point. It's why I never watched past Toy Story 3 lol. I even heard 4 was really good, but never felt like anything was missing from the character's stories, and just preferred think of them living a cool, chill life I suppose. Maybe it's a weird quirk I have where I don't need more content even of a thing I super loved if I think they stuck the landing well enough, idk lol.

Interesting to hear about Super, though. Probably going to watch that video you linked instead of watching the show if what you said is true.
