I'm passing this question along, because I think we might have folks here who have some suggestions.

What tools or combination of tools are folks using to organize in your local area and beyond?

A relative of mine was asking me about software to replace the event/RSVP/page aspects of Facebook.

It almost sounds like he wants a locked down Lemmy instance or a combination of tools, but I'm not sure what the landscape is like out there.

Any input would be cool. I might link him to this post later if I get enough comments.

Edit: after some light googling I found this: https://joinmobilizon.org/en/

I organize on here. Can't go into detail for reasons that would be obvious to anybody whose heard what I do for mutual aid, but I just directly reach out to other leftists and ask what they need

Here is what he told me:

i.e. posts to learn about what people are doing and events when specific actions are happening

Maybe a Lemmy Instance that is designed to be local only, federation off except for allowed instances.

Yeah, I wanna join Midwest Social again. They were good for a fairly local lemmy instance, obviously not perfect but it was good to see people so close to me who weren't total shitheads

A lot of folks use stuff like Insta and Facebook for initial outreach. From there apps like Telegram, Signal, and other stuff keep out the chuds.
