This honestly has been like a recurring nightmare of mine. I just assumed nobody would have the audacity to try it nowadays, but more and more this country is capable of any horror I could conjure...

no i think historically the state has fucked with crazy quite a lot and with few consequences, except maybe the unintended assassination of JFK
bad take imo. underestimating how much they can get away with could give people a false sense of security, which will then be one of the things that allows them to actually commit such atrocities
