i thought it would be fun to have a post where everyone can share the trans art that they love

i don't feel like we need to get too granular with what counts and what doesn't, but if other people want stricter rules that's fine with me. obviously art by trans artists should be celebrated here, but other stuff is good too, as long as you think it's worth celebrating because of its portrayal of transness. we probably don't need to recommend any big famous things, but if you felt really seen by something more mainstream i'm not going to say you can't talk about it

in general if you watched or read something or enjoyed any other kind of art and felt like it spoke to the trans experience in some way, feel free to post it here!

personally i would count something like hello melancholic, a yuri manga with a main character that reads to me and to everyone i know who read it as transgender. it's never made explicit but she's very tall, worries about people noticing something was up with her voice early in the morning, she's drawn noticeably different than the other girls but not in a bad way, and there are a bunch of other small details that make this a common read.

another work i would recommend is the visual novel umineko no naku koro ni. umineko is a murder mystery, and the gender involved in it is therefore a major spoiler, but it's all handled really well. umineko is good and i'd absolutely recommend it. i've seen it referred to by many as the visual novel that makes you trans, it's a whole thing. the non-spoiler pitch is: what if an agatha christie murder mystery had no detective, a culprit blaming the deaths on a witch rumored to have haunted the family for decades, and a soundtrack that's 50% club bangers and 50% classical

    general umineko spoilers, no specifics

the culprit is trans, but they're easily the most sympathetic character in the story, and the author knows it. we see several instances of them throughout different timelines, and they're always trans. plus we get a couple of nonbinary side characters (and the most awful pair of lesbians who i love dearly)

    .
though i have plenty of others (including non-weeb stuff, i swear!) i'll leave with just one more for now. to strip the flesh is an excellent oneshot manga about a trans man. i'm not transmasc so i can't speak to all the specifics of the portrayal, but it feels true to my experiences and i can say for sure that it spoke to a lot of the feelings i have about my relationships with relatives. it's really good, you can read it in like half an hour, would recommend
