"Right on Red" was more or less non existent before the gas rationing that took place in response to the Oil embargo imposed on allies of Israel in response to the 1973 Yom Kippur War as a way to increase fuel efficiency by stalling on red lights less.

While fuel efficiency in itself is not a bad thing, having right on red is incredibly dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. All my homies hate right on red, everyone on this platform should be against it, and be in support of banning it in their cities/states. I've almost been killed by a pick up truck driver ramming through a right on red during a walk signal at a crosswalk and I'm sure other people here have similar stories.

Only a couple of lights near me have a sign requiring drivers to come to a full stop before turning right that threaten automatic ticketing if you don't comply.

Most don't even bother with any signs, and a handful of them just have a yellow triangle "caution when merging" signs with their own separate turn lane that creates a concrete island for the poor folks that dare to cross a 6+ lane road on foot.
