      In Commonwealth countries, the term isn't considered a slur as it is in the US. Not saying it's appropriate, but if he's actually from Australia, it's worth contextualizing a bit

        True. I'm from a place where it's almost equally like to be a form of affection as gentle derision for blokes in particular. But I thought it better to CW it anyway and his use of it is definitely more in the vein of it's misogynistic legacy.

        I’d even say in the US in the last decade or so it’s become a lot more acceptable. My friends say it all the time, and they’re not the type to casually say slurs. Older people definitely don’t say it often though.
