    There is a rhythm system in battles, if you press attack to the beat of the song you'll get extra attacks, I think up to 8. I could only get to maybe 3 or 4 consecutive strikes.

    Get the tissues ready.

    And try a few different emulators to see which make the rhythm combat most doable. The input lag is wobbly.

    Mother 3 remains one of my favorite games of all time to this day. It is incredible from top to bottom. Writing is amazing. Gameplay is amazing. Everything is interesting. The only problem the game has is how the Magypsies are written. It’s extremely problematic with what I perceive as homophobia, transphobia, and implied SA. So be warned.

    As take_five_seconds mentioned, there is a rhythm component to the battle system. It's based on the battle music iirc. So be prepared to play with the audio on.

    I usually listen to different music while playing games but that wasn't practical for Mother 3.

    eta: it's still totally worth playing tho, don't let me discourage anyone!
