For this Wednesday Super Slop Night, first up is The Wandering Earth 2 (2019), the sequel to the Chinese sci-fi blockbuster of the same name, which we watched last week. It follows the continuing efforts of humanity to save Earth by moving it out of range of the expanding sun by creating gigantic engines that propel it to safety, and toward a new home in a star system lightyears away. This one has a much larger budget than the original and is generally considered to be better than the first. We’ll find out for ourselves.

After that is Barbie in The 12 Dancing Princesses (2006), an animated fairy tale featuring twelve sisters who are forbidden to dance by a sinister duchess. The sisters love dancing, though, so they go through a portal into a parallel world where they can dance to their hearts’ content. Many sources consider this to be the best of the direct-to-video Barbie movies, and it has an extremely high rating on Letterboxd, so let’s check it out.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Hextube, right here:

I don't think it matters too much, here's a brief summary:

      spoiler

In the near future, the sun begins expanding rapidly. Humans get started on a race to move Earth to a distant star system in a journey that will last thousands of years by building hundreds of enormous thrusters on the planet's surface with China leading the effort. Everyone moves into enormous underground cities, but the Earth is still hit with a huge crisis and half the population dies in the first few decades. The first movie revolves around an event that happens when they reach Jupiter, where an unexpected gravity spike causes the Earth to go off course and humans have to find a solution; they end up having to sacrifice the space station that went ahead of Earth with supplies and sensors, there's a thematic bit where this space station had been programmed to go into deep space with embryos to continue humanity yet the humans decide to risk it all to save the currently existing humans' lives.
