I lose faith in humanity every day. When we added a rule in my chatroom that prohibited people from using normalized ableist slurs, huge arguments broke out and many people had to be removed. All because it inconvenienced them slightly to not make several other members feel dehumanized.
I can't even get my own family to stop using several slurs.

Similar things happened here on hexbear over the year or so after we launched. People who couldn't be assed to do a modicum of self crit blew up for several days and were banned/left and all that remained were the actual cool people who were capable of marginally changing their language and respecting others. Purges like that are a pain to deal with in the moment but absolutely necessary to maintain a healthy site culture.
