I've said this before but I think if anyone was trying to make a game in the Mad Max universe, it shouldn't be a narrative driven game where you play as Max or Furiosa etc.
You should be the random war rig driver for a local petty warlord. Focusing on how to transport your delivery quickly, without damaging the rig badly or using too much guzzoline.
The best parts of 3-4 out of 5 movies involve a rig being chased and attacking convoys was fun in the very okay video game.
As the game progressed you'd unlock better appearance options, armor, weapons and even nick names. The same for your war crew. You'd upgrade experienced members into being black thumbs/fingers, organic mechanics, maybe even a history man for morale/reputation.
The rig would get upgraded with better engines, weapons, defenses etc. You'd unlock or capture escort vehicles which you could drive as well.
You could even start the game stylistically in between films 1-2, with initially just biker gangs as the attackers, but eventually you'd driving through canyons blasting berserker cannibals parachuting down on you etc.
There is an FTL-like top-down vehicular battler Convoy. Its hard in that special FTL way, so expect to die a bunch and reset. The premise is your cruiser crash-landed on a wild west of a planet, and need to run around finding parts while battling the three enemy factions.
Any of y'all play existing truck simulators? I thought I might try one out and see if it's something I could relax with.
I play a fair bit of American Truck Simulator. Usually to audiobooks or dense podcast series if I'm tired and want something to do while I listen. Various country music if I'm just trying to chill and turn my brain off. I don't have a fancy rig or anything, I just play with a controller and keyboard combo usually and keep it pretty simple in terms of simulation settings. I just like driving trucks through changing landscapes.
Dust & Diesel is an upcoming Mad Max-like truck driving game where you have to basically do the Fury Road by customising your truck and support vehicles. It's first person like a truck sim I believe.
Dustland Delivery is a pixel art side on game with more of a strategic approach, but sounds like it has more of the depth and narrative aspects you might like, as you try to use wasteland trucking to make your little encampment a key townshipninbthr post apocalypse.
Just looked and Dust and Diesel and it looks fun! The only thing I'd like to see to make it the real mad max experience is being able to have a crew on top of your rig, and following in their own cars. Plus, being able to get out/let someone else drive and pick off the buzzards yourself.
That would be cool. Like lots of good ideas we'll probably get the indie space running with one or two really well, but not necessarily the whole kit and kaboodle.
That sounds like the absolute perfect game for Limmy to livestream - his Truck Simulator streams are some of his best
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
Solid idea! I'd like it to see Mad Max get out of the Fury Road setting since it's been a kinda different type of world each film. The concept still works fine but I'd like to get away from war boys, Furiosa, the citadel etc. I'd like a new mad max setting made for the game. Maybe you play one of several industrious factions that have begun doing primitive trade with settlements and the game is sort of a competition between your gang and rival gangs to kinda go beyond raider into running a trade monopoly. Sort of a Mad Max Silk Road kinda thing (the historical trade route, not the drug website)
You would love Far Cry: New Dawn. A good chunk of that game is driving oil trucks. They also blow up with so much as a dent, so you'll have to do it a lot.
