in the current version of the game, in Options on the main menu, you can switch the Voice Over Mode to "Classic" and get the original voices

Incorrect, I've done this and it doesn't restore the Chapo voices.

This Torrent dates to 2019 which would be before the Final Cut came out. I haven't verified it myself to see if it's still the original voices but pirate links from 2019 would be where I'd look.

Wait. I played part of this game (I know, I know... one day I'll return...) a couple years ago. I remember the voice acting being amazing. But was I hearing the "old" voices or new?

When and why did they change it? In what way?

I probably should finish that game though. I did enjoy it. Just got distracted from it and never returned (happens a lot)

They went back and recorded voice acting for everything, previously only parts of some conversations were voice acted. Presumably they couldn't get all the actors back (and for a few characters, probably wanted real voice actors instead of podcasters if they're going to voice everything)

iirc, never played it myself, but i remember a contemporaneous chapo ep will saying they agreed to do the voices but don't think they ever got paid for it, and then i guess it was winning all these awards. Since then the art house/collective that made the game apprently became more aligned with or co-opted by capital. I think someone turned it into a more straightforward moneymaking venture now. Maybe afterward they just hire professional voice actors to rerecord so it's not a business headache.
