The same thing happens to me too, more with envisioning a future pet tho. Sometimes I start planning having a dog or cat in the future in my head then my brain just starts being like “ok but do you want to have to go through it dying?” and I’m just like uhhh
Yeah I take the happy brain chemical pills for the big sad and it makes it more like the big meh so that’s better than nothing but still have those intrusive thoughts. I do think ultimately I will get one, prolly a cat, that’ll just nag at me tho
I’ve only ever had a dog, and don’t really know much about cats, but I’ve sorta always wanted one. Even just because they’re not so high maintenance lol
Sometimes when my dog makes me happy by doing dog stuff my brain ruins it by thinking "someday she's gonna die" and then I get sad

I think the general plan is to wring more enjoyment out of their existence than grief over their death but who can tell when you have the big sad

Right on, I have too much big sad to be able to reliably renew a prescription so drugs ain't great for me
