until you are testing hypotheses you are not doing science
Why do we teach kids this garbage definition of science? Literally some of the most famous scientific achievements, like Einstein's work on relativity, and Darwin's work on natural selection, did not involve any testing of hypotheses. Neither do large parts of the social sciences, or most of computer science, or parts of psychology and linguistics, or some of the more speculative parts of physics, or loads of other things that are clearly science.
newsflash: Astronomical spectroscopy is all bunk because it's not testing a hypothesis. I guess nearly everything we know about composition, temperature, density, mass, distance, and luminosity of our universe isn't "science"
