These things are so silly. Like, do any other countries award so many of these "regime medals" to random people and celebrities?

Usually they award them to other heads of state for no reason

In Denmark they hand out knighthoods to:

      • Royals. These people hand eachother decorations like normal people exchange birthday gifts.
      • Diplomats and heads of state which is a very common diplomatic practice. Recently the Egyptian dictator visited and he and his delegation all got fancy orders to make them happy
      • Prominent politicians, like ministers and long-time MP's
      • Fancylads working fancy jobs for the royals. If you regularly attend the same parties as the king they put some bling on you so your dress uniform doesn't look too bare.
      • High-ranking civil servants and military officers
      • The occasional businessperson, scientist or artist

Some of the artists and a few of the politicians do not accept the knighthood. Some refuse because they oppose the monarchy, other refuse because they feel that a snobbish order doesn't fit their personality.

Which is even more fucked imo. Now my grandfather's highest military honor he got for fighting the fucking nazis is shared with some random rich asshole who was friends with Sarkozy or whatever
