Hey chapos, several of you are math people, and I'm hoping to expand my more narrative math reading.
I've really enjoyed What is Mathematics, Really? by Rueben Hersch and Does God Play Dice? by Ian Stewart.
What else you got?
Here’s looking at Euclid is a fantastic and surprisingly engaging read, none of the concepts are too complicated but it does a really good job explaining them and holding your attention, not to mention surprisingly funny!
I like adventures in statistics by andy field. hell anything by andy tbh but that one is the narrative one
In the area of Philosophy of Mathematics, I have heard good things about Proofs and Refutations by Lakatos. (Pro-tip: if your local library doesn't have it available, archive.org is also a library for e-books!)
Oh, lol, I think I actually read it during grad school for education, or at least excerpts. I recognize the cover, now I'm gonna be on the hunt for it in my bookshelves.
I'll take a look!
I don't do well with e-books, but have been pretty good at finding audiobooks for stuff. Though I am unsure how that would work for a math text, so...
But I also live in the Boston area, so it should be no challenge to find a library that has it. Rarely do I find books that are unavailable around here.
