I always associate this album with the fall time. I have the distinct memory of discovering this album when I was 14 and listening to it all the way through as I walked through the woods during the fall. Such a perfect and melancholic album.

Same, saw them the same night as Swans and ended up with a fun tinnitus souvenir.

      Worth it.

That must have been a hell of a show. I hope you had the sense to wear some earplugs!

I did! Swans were louder – including a fun bit where Michael Gira waved his arms around at the band "conducting" them to play louder, culminating in him and Norman Westberg exchanging yelled insults and spitting at each other. Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Oh Sees played too, good time. Was just the right age where it really blew my mind wide open.

Honestly kind of disappointed with their live show. Kind of noisy and kind of off for my taste. Seeing them play most Loveless tracks was great though. The speakers needed to be louder though. They were so loud my ears hurt at the end, but they weren't Swans loud. Swans 3rd row or so at Bonnaroo reverberated my whole goddamn body and made it a nearly 5 sense experience.

Nice. My Bloody Valentine is a pretty solid horror movie in and of itself (The original I'd hope)

I like to use RYM to find some new music now and then (heavily in college) and remember seeing this album so high up the chart and being listed as "shoegaze". I figured I had no interest in an album, band, or genre with all of their respective names. Accidentally listened to Only Shallow and never judged an album orband by its title again. Whole album is a banger.

Definitely a happy accident! On the subject of shoegaze, if you've never listened to Nocture by Wild Nothing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XP1jHPp_kQ), I'd suggest it very heavily. It used to be my go to album when coming up on psychedelics so I may be a bit biased, but it's one of my top albums of all time and one of the few I can consistently listen to all the way through.

        Awesome suggestion, thanks.
It looks like you know shoegaze pretty well, so you probably already know about Boris, but if not, check them out. They're a Japanese band and aren't strictly shoegaze, but imo they're at their best when they're within range of that genre. Maybe start with Farewell and Spoon.

Yeah! I have heard of Boris before. I haven't checked them out too much. I think I only listened to Pink and both Heavy Rocks I think they were called? I'll definitely check those two out though.

I originally wrote this album off as "Bullet for My Valentine" until I came across it for 50 cents at a flea market. Killer.
