At least quarantine that shit to the dunk tank.
I'm not on hexbear to spend all my time thinking about libs lol, I'm on hexbear because I like hexbear. I like the riffs, and the topics, and the cool knowledgeable users who post stuff I would never see otherwise. I've learned a ton here over the years, and it really feels like a wholly unique space on the internet.

Yeah, however they weighed the old one was perfect. I get we have to go with the overall algorithm for federatin'... but that just means all of Lemmy is in desperate need of a better ruleset.
I've been hoping they'll change Lemmy's Active sort to Hexbear's old one. If we'd had this back in the day I'm pretty confident the early struggle sessions would have killed the site.

We did have this algorithm back in the day. The site kind of sucked until the admins fixed it.
There's some kind of plan to restore the old active sort algorithm, but it hasn't happened yet. I tracked down the code that did it from the old implementation, but I have no idea if anyone is working on getting that integrated with the new codebase right now.
at least hot sort is almost half as good as the old active was
posts only stay up on that one for like an hour though. the 12 hours of old Active was kind of a sweet spot for "what's goin on today" and "every thread is days old with struggle sessions in every thread"
If you're not sorting by new you're doing it wrong.
That's true and I think part of it is an adjustment period which is gonna last a few more weeks till we kinda regulate and rebalance everything. This post is part of the process. Tweaking the sitting alg will help too.
What's always a major turning point for us is when "big news" happens. People who logged off come back home, we sometimes struggle a bit and then establish a party line, it's all exciting stuff but only happens every 12-18 months I feel like. I'm looking forward to the next one though, it'll be interesting with federation.
