Like reddit it will eventually grow to a size that is extremely difficult to moderate, can no longer be followed by "new" and won't be fit for purpose. That's down the line quite a bit in my opinion, but it is something that is inevitable.
Interestingly enough now that I think back on it.. Reddit had meta posts and shitposts like this in their "main" too back when it was still available. You can still visit it by going to https://old.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/ The site as a whole had more personality before it went away, but it's hard to say how much of the changes were team changes at reddit (raldi and others leaving) vs the closure of the main sitewide submission area.
