I know a good bit about Copeland cause growing up, I had relatives back in Louisiana who were followers of him. I have relatives who literally gave away their life savings to televangelist preachers. One of them passed away in her 90s and had less than $200 in her savings after spending decades of following Benny Hinn around and giving him her money.

Copeland is infamous as the first one to do the whole MONEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYY, COMETH.... TO ME, NOWWWWW!!! thing that became a hallmark from televangelists like LeRoy Thompson and Creflo Dollar (and yes, that is really his name!)

This shit didn't just go away after the 80s. Everyone pretended it went away after Swaggert and Bakker were busted, but they picked right back up on the gravy train in the 90s and they had a huge boom in the 2000s with evangelicalism during the Bush era.

Here is LeRoy Thompson doing the whole MONEYYYYY, COMETH... TO ME, NOWWWW!! thing and it's so insane that this shit has to be seen to be believed for how real it is. "Tonight, my bills are getting paid in the name of Jesus!"

Seriously, fuck televangelists. We should be taxing the hell out of churches and sending these ghouls to prison.
