How do you shelter and brainwash your kids so much that they're actually afraid of poor people? I knew these gated communities were bad but the quotes from residents sound like satire. They are unfortunately not satirical.

The media likes to make sure that suburbians are terrified of an invasion from the poor, if they're not shaking in their boots behind 4 brick walls, a metal gate, and several moats then they're not going to vote for the "law and order" candidates that depend on their vote.

It seems like people's brains work on an 8-14 moth cycles of average floating stress ans happyness levels.

That is to say, that for someone in the upper middle class, they peobably haven't seen a real hardship in a timeframe their brain can work with. So when they see a homeless person it is the worst thing they can remember having happened to them. Thats their 10/10 for distress seeing another human.

Can you imagine such a cursed existence to be completely without perspective and reaningful relationship to the world?

That's an interesting idea. I feel like I bump into that thought every once in a while, but I've never fully investigated the idea of relative emotional impact. I know for a fact that my emotions don't work like others at least.

Weird series in that each sequel is notably better than the previous film. First one you can just skip, 2 and 3 are pretty good despite the Hillary stand in protag in 3, 4 is just awesome

I can't fathom the functionality of that womens daughter. She was literally terrified of working people lmao. I mean yes she's a child, but she wont be in 10 or even 15 years. She'll be an adult who can vote and interact and effect the world, that to me is far more terrifying than anything she felt in that moment at the stop.

It's really weird. In the suburbs in South Africa practically every house has an electric fence, barbed wire, an alarm system connected to private armed security, metal gates and trellidoors, etc. As someone with none of that it's quite dissociating whenever I have to go in the suburbs and see these houses. And if that isn't enough, there are gated communities for the ultra rich too. It's quite a situation tbh.
