You could probably avoid having to live in California if you relied on freelance work, but that's risky. You would need to buy a lot of expensive equipment too. Fuck Hollywood, fuck capitalism.

I don't know how current socialist countries do it, although I assume freelance work in all industries is less stressful in socialist countries because the risk of inconsistent income isn't as potentially devastating.

L.A. is the black hole singularity of USA, slowly pulling the whole continent into its gaping maw

i have some kind of brain disease due to hollywood movies and west coast hip hop that makes me see LA as the coolest place on earth.

I can't even unwire my brain from this, like whenever I see like the style of "chaparal" hills or Venice Beach, or a street lined with tall palm trees on either side my brain is just like "no, it doesn't matter that this is a giant, dirty, overcrowded parking lot that won't house the homeless, you have to move there., it's the most beautiful and cool place on earth"

And I feel like most Americans and foreigners have an even more idyllic view of it than I do

I know there are lots of colder areas there, but people who live in extremely hot areas of Cali are fucking insane to me. It feels straight up painful to walk outside sometimes

They've always been there like the other poster said. Portland and Seattle are two of the few places where local politics are driven by a liberal vs. left dichotomy with no conservatives to be found. The liberals pretty much always win in Portland (not without a fight), but Seattle at least has Sawant.

Huh? You mean like the proud boys? Those guys were always here. conservatives are pretty numerous up here (east of the Cascades for WA and everywhere outside Portland for OR) but I don’t think it’s getting any worse, it’s always kinda been this way

I think there's some in Florida, I know that Ringling is an art school on the gulf coast that sources a lot of animators to big companies so they might. Wouldn't be surprised if Orlando had some, considering the mouse
