      Imagine, if you will, vast swathes of land set aside for two purposes: firstly, the growing of a curated forest of some species of tree chosen for the fastest growth and the minimum nutrient sequestration, and second, for the rehabilitative and reparative labor of liberals and reactionaries, sentenced to three tasks. These tasks would be forestry services, harvesting the lumber, and then burying that lumber deep in mines hand excavated for this purpose.

      There they would not only be humanely removed from society, they would over time make up for some measure of the waste and excess their consumption and political support caused.

      Or just invent a full-immersion VR system and make them think they're doing that for a century or two, while the real task of carbon sequestration is being done by machines farming a carbon source that's more efficient to grow and store, maybe some kind of algae idk.

    I hate litter, but who the fuck cares about someone throwing some Burger King wrappers on the ground compared to deforesting 54,000sq miles of tar sands and pumping three barrels of water in to get one barrel of oil to enrich some individuals. Who cares about a few people burning a little trash when we're on track to privitize all useful land and deforest it, plant palm trees and sugar cane and burn all the old trees in "green" biomass power plants. No matter which examples I choose, I'm sure I'm missing even bigger problems.
