Obviously doesn’t fly with authorial intent, but it’s a solid revisionist reading.
This was a really good article. It needs re-writing for lib-appeal though. The concept of this take is good, the execution is one that will make a lib close the window after about 30 seconds of reading.
Give it a Guardian-reader lib tone and you'd get people sharing it around.
With the right rewrite I think so. It's not even a huge rewrite, the work is good, it just needs specific leftist phrasing changed to lib-friendly things. There's a bit too many "workers" in there and you can't use proletariat or bourgeoisie in lib-friendly works. Instant brain shutdown.
If you did a rewrite with a particularly good snooty pseudo-intellectual tone you could really get the libs that like to sound as clever as possible going with it. You could easily give it an "I'm incredibly clever" edge.
The "Winston is a horribly unreliable narrator who hates poor people and women" part is actually super convincing.
Ohhh nice find, it was interesting thanks! Also, the comments are depressing.
